Food Hunting List: Singapore

Back in June 2014, I embarked on my second solo trip to Singapore. In these 2 days in Singapore,  I managed to try some local cuisines, which made up of this #FoodHuntingListSG.

Char Kuey Teow - Outram Park Fried Kway Teow Mee
Char Kuey Teow - Outram Park Fried Kway Teow Mee
  • Order: Char kuey teow
  • Verdict: To my utter disappointment, it was bland (not spicy, not even salty enough), lack of texture (kuey teow that stuck to each other) and substance (few pieces of fish cakes countable with one hand).

Iced Cham - Old Tea Hut
Iced Cham - Old Tea Hut
  • Order: Iced cham
  • Verdict: Good Cham in business area, hence the business price.

3-Course Set Lunch - Salta Argentine Parrilla + Grocer
3-Course Set Lunch - Salta Argentine Parrilla + Grocer
  • Order: 3-course set lunch (Ensalada Caesar, Bife de Chorizo, and Sopa de Frutas)
  • Verdict: Bife de Chorizo came with 200g charcoal-grilled grass fed striploin, which was lean with easy texture. Flavour was slightly lacking but it went very well with condiments.

Coffee with Butter - 1983 - A Taste of Nanyang
Coffee with Butter - 1983 - A Taste of Nanyang
  • Order: Coffee with butter
  • Verdict: To my disappointment, it was just butter melted in coffee.

Yong Tau Fu Mee - Koo Kee Yong Tow Foo

Fried Sui Kao - People's Park Centre
Fried Sui Kao - People's Park Centre
  • Order: Fried sui kao and boiled sui kao
  • Verdict: Too oily to my liking, but it had crusty outer layer with plenty fillings. Pretty good for value. Both were relatively good but my personal preference was fried sui kao.

Kaya Toast with Butter Set - Ya Kun Kaya Toast 亞坤
Kaya Toast with Butter Set - Ya Kun Kaya Toast 亞坤
  • Order: Kaya toast with butter set , French toast set
  • Verdict: Despite the skimpy outlook, the charred surface and porous texture were promising. All I needed was a little pressure and the toast broke apart, oozing with rich kaya jam and melty butter slices. French toast, on the other hand, was rather disappointing.

Ayam Penyet - IndoBox
Ayam Penyet - IndoBox
  • Order: Ayam penyet, ikan penyet
  • Verdict: Ayam penyet itself was crispy, juicy and well spiced. Ikan penyet, on the other hand, was nothing short of great. Similar to ayam penyet, it was crispy and juicy, albeit the texture was slightly off (mainly due to selection of fish).

Goat Cheese, Leeks, Scallions, Garlic and Bacon Pizza - Marina Bay Sands and Pizzeria Mozza
Goat Cheese, Leeks, Scallions, Garlic and Bacon Pizza - Marina Bay Sands and Pizzeria Mozza
  • Order; Goat Cheese, Leeks, Scallions, Garlic and Bacon Pizza, Meatballs al Forno, Tricolore with Parmigiano Reggiano and Anchovy Dressing
  • Verdict: I was totally amazed by the very pizza texture which looked and tasted almost like fried: hollow and airy, yet crispy and soft. While the bacon gave the pizza its savoury end, leeks and scallions gave the pizza its sweeter note, and casually accentuated by the pungent goat cheese. Despite so, there was some flavours missing that could further elevate the excitement of such great pizza.
